Powersupply to buy?

so i am looking at building a new machine. i am SLIing 2 GTX 260s with a core i5 cpu and do plan on doing some mid-range overclocking.

i have calculated the power consumption on tomshardware.com to be ~650 Watts so here are some PSUs i've come across. are these worth the $$ or should i get cheaper lower powered ones or more expensive ones??

^^Toms hardware power consumption link.

IT HAS TO BE MODULAR.

None of those are modular

get the 850 watt coolermaster one that you posted before. it has 6 connectors, you will need 2 for each gtx260, so you have more for later if you decide to upgrade. the kingwin loks like an off brand, and the other two originally post dont have enough connectors

Get an OCZ ModXStream Pro 600/700W ... I'm too lazy to get a link, sorry.

WAIT! Scratch that, not enough 6-pin leads.

couldn't i just use the 4 pin molex to 6 pin PCIe power adapters for the GPUs or would the power get screwed up in there?

I would recommend a 1000w PSU and a good one. The 2 GTX 260's will draw a lot of power.

1000 watts is an over kill and a waste of money for that build...it will run just fine on a good solid 750w power supply.

That I would NOT do! Don't run graphics cards off of a 4 pin power cable. It will work but why would you?

For that build in your sig...this is what I would get;)

CORSAIR 750W

If you have a little more to spend might as well bump up to the 850w:D

~150$ is my budget for a powersupply. that 750Watt Corsair one i was looking at earlier, but it doesnt come with 2 6pin PCIe connectors.

You are correct it does not come with 2 x 6 pin PCI-E power connectors...it comes with 4 x 6 + 2 pin PCI-E power connectors:D Even better :good: That way it can be used on 6 pin cards and 8 pin cards.

Click on the resources tab and it shows all the connectors;)
