Practical Improvements from Upgrading CPU vs. RAM vs. SSD

I know this is a total novice question but most Google searches basically just describe what they do.

What I am looking for is in a practical sense what types of routine tasks are benefited by CPU upgrades vs. tasks benefited from RAM upgrades vs. SSD upgrades if that makes sense.

I am still trying to figure out what I am going to do with my 2 home PCs.

One has the following (was a custom built computer from CompUSA):

AMD Phenom II X4 820 processor, 2.8 GHZ
MSI-7591 (GF615M-P31) MOBO (no SATA III or USB 3.0 support)
8GB RAM (This is MAX supported)
NVIDIA Geforce 210 Videocard – don’t know model number but only really use it for multiple monitors
1TB HDD (Using all of 11% of it LOL)

The other has the following (an HP from office Depot):

AMD Phenom II X2 521 processor, 3.5G GHz
HP p6821pb MOBO (no SATA III or USB 3.0 support)
4 GB RAM (4 slots total supporting 16GB Max)
ATI Radeon 4200 HD Integrated Graphics – supports my dual monitors
750 GB HD (guessing it is a 5400 RPM)

I went to cpubenchmark.com to see the scores of my current CPUs along with some various Intel Core i5s I am considering IF I upgrade and they scored as follows:
AMD Phenom X2 521 - 2131
AMD Phenom II X4 820 - 3451
Intel Core i5-4440 - 6472
Intel Core i5-4590 - 7243
Intel Core i5-4690 – 7623

So as I try to decide what I want to what are the practical differences between these scores as in what would I notice going from say the 1st 2 to the core I5s and then, is there really a noticeable difference between the 1st Corei5 on the list and the 3rd?

Same question for RAM. 4GB vs. 8GB vs. 12 GB, vs. 16 GB – what practical improvements between 4 to 8, and 8-16?

Lastly, I know SSDs improve boot time and restart times. What other noticeable enhancements in daily performance do they provide, if any?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to make the best decision I can. Part of me really wants to build a PC just to do it and because I am impatient and hate waiting while multi-tasking. Part of me says I don’t REALLY need to. And part of me is scared to try it because I have never built one before.

Thanks in advance.
