Prebulit or Custom PC's?

Well:

1. Your avatar kind of freaks me out

2. There are numerous threads on this, I even think there might be a poll

-I couldnt find any threads using the search function so just in case

I prefer custom built:

- It gives you way more option, allows you to stick to a tight budget

- Gives a feeling of satisfaction after its complete and boots up

- A major learning experience, which is always a good thing

I am a prebuilt guy for as long as the warranty lasts. If anything goes boom, the company has to fix it for free. But after the warranty ends, I upgrade stuff to make it just as I want it. Works for me. I'd love to build my own box, but every time I added up the costs, prebuilt was cheaper.

EDIT: LMAO!! yeahh, that toothless guy is a freak.
How can you tell, he has a mustache.

I prefer custom built, the only time i buy prebuilt is when i'm buying a laptop since a barebones laptop kit costs more than deals i get on laptops from Dell.

With custom builds, you choose exactly what you like and you dont get any of the unnecessary parts. You can also get higher quality parts. And most prebuilts use integrated video, and with customs you can choose from a wide variety to fit your budget.

Also with prebuilts, you cant overclock anything.

I always do costum, coz I'm a 36 year old nerd who has no nerd friends in this
small AZ town. Gives me something to get exited about. Doesn't matter if it's an old P3 that I put together from parts laying around, or all brand new state of the art technology like my new Rig(see below), I always do the costom thing. This town I live in is a tourist/retirement town, and the average age is 76!!! Can you believe that!!! I guarantee you, they are not interested in FPS or OCing at all. The only PC business owner in town, looks at you, like he can't wait for you to get the F*** out of his store, and is probably in his late 50's. So these forums are my only rescue........(grin)

well I havn't had much luck with prebuilts and I'm doing my first build right now.

Go for it, man!
It is so cool, and you get to know a lot about computers, because you need to understand how to connect what and when, and especially the newer stufff.....I almost fell backwards when I read the Mobo manual, but I am slowly gaining strenght. There is so much in the BIOS and so many features that there is enough for any kind of Nerd-needs.

I completely agree agapetos!

When you build your own, you get to know how everything actually works, and if something goes wrong you have a better understanding of how the parts work, and may allow you to solve it much easier than with a prebuilt which you are unfirmilar with.

haha thanks. I'm going over to my local computer store today and seeing what they have for mobo's. I've gotten sick of trying to find stuff on ebay so im just saying screw buying stuff off the internet. But what ever help I need this is where i'll be coming. sorry if my posts don't make sense today. I didn't sleep last night.

Hi Omega,

yeah, this is how I learned.......and my dad is a really cool dude who knows everything about computers. He was with it from the very beginning and he knows it all in detail. So he taught me a lot, and still does every now and then.

Have you seen the new raptor X from WD with a glass insert so you can see the HDD actually doing its thing?:D

I love that stuff, although I don't wanna spend the money.

When I was a kid my mom always got really frustrated with me, coz I took everything apart....record players, watches, stereos, my bike, coffe machines and whatever. I never could put it together though.....:o

My first computer was pre-built... 2nd was custom, 3rd was custom, and 4th is prebuilt. My 2nd and 3rds really didn't have many problems but Alienware has a financing plan going on that I couldn't miss. Now my computer freakin rules (When I get it) and I don't have to worry about getting $2000 up for a purchase!

Agapetos: How much did you pay for all your parts in the signature minus the monitor? How does your PC perform? Any benchmarks or conclusions from graphics/gameplay/Lag!

Just so you know, Newegg has 6 months no interest....exactly how good was this alienware plan? Good enough to justify spending the extra $800 just so that the computer says alienware? ;)

The prices don't look too crazy... I did a LITTLE research before buying the Alienware Comp. I paid $2500 for an awesome Computer. Yea it's a lot and probably paid $300 more then I should have but I have a 2 year warranty and a dude that will come over my house and fix any problems with my computer. No more worrying if crap goes wrong and worrying about buying a new part if one craps out. Sense of security I guess. My harrdrive with ALLLL my data took a crap out of me and I was a wreck! Luckily I burned most of it too a CD-ROM (Like 19 of them) but I still lost a lot.

Well that's why you use RAID 1...

Custom, we bought the main computer prebuilt. But essentially everything is upgraded. Only the case is the same old. :P
