Preparing for 6800GS

I really want to get a XFX GeForce 6800GS, but I need to make sure I'm getting everything I need. I have a prebuilt HP a1230n:
AMD Athlon 3800+
1gb RAM
200gb HD

The problem is, it comes with a 300W 12V @ 19A, this needs to change. What power supply should I look at? I'm thinking somewhere around 500W 12V @30A or so, and around $50. Do I need anything else to run this video card in terms of cooling or anything else?

6800's tend to get rather warm. However, you should be alright as long as the system has decent cooling inside. If it already gets pretty hot, you might consider upgrading some fans or something...

The case seems to be pretty cool, anyway I can check the temps of it? Should I worry about picking up a video card cooler as the 6800GS runs hot?

The nVidia software should have some kind of temperature reader on it. You dont need a cooler, but if you want it to be quieter or if you plan to overclock then i would get one.

How loud are they? I don't plan to overclock it because my computer skills are very limited.

The aspire you looked at in another thread is a nice one, its 520Watts and its either 36A or 38A on the +12V Rails.

Also, are you sure that your computer has a PCI-E x16 slot?

Is it the brown slot?

PCI-E are usually white or in some cases orange etc. BTW, why isn't my X-Fire miniprofile in the signature showing up properly? I used the one meant for forums, it's a "BB" code. Or should I use the HTML code?

are you able to take a picture of it and post it here?

And mrjack, they dont allow pictures in the sigs, thats why it doesnt show up.

thats fine :)

have a look at SpeedFan or Motherboard Monitor 5 :)

shouldnt be needed

we dont live here

not that loud

what about a power supply?
you already picked out the rough specs in your first post, if you need exaxt models, have a look at PSU 101.

do you have a model number for that? Because i cant find any specs on that online.
That is the modelnum, it's an OEM board

I would just go with a 7800, ive seen a few benchmarks, and it wasnt as good as I thought it would be.
So you would reccomend a card that you've seen not to be that great?
