Ok, i have a Toshiba Portege 7140CT With Docking Station. PIII Processor, 196mb Of Ram, 6gb HDD. Specifications Aside, I want Windows Xp Professional. I have never installed an Operation System but i am somewhat tech savy. I downloaded, SiW, which tells you all the computer specifications and drivers etc. What i am concerned about is drivers, apparently, i cant just hit clean install and call it a day. So, i found all the names of all the drivers i need, now i just have to download them but i have something for that. Should i download the newest bios. Does anyone have a very detailed guide to install xp pro.

Basically i m just worried about drivers, driverguide is my source for drivers. and does anyone have a very detailed step by step guide to install Xp Pro.

It will be fine on drivers, as that system was released before XP came out, therefor XP should have all of the drivers installed for it. If not, it will be either on Windows update or available through the vender.

You should not need to upgrade the BIOS to run Windows XP.

Boot up off the CD for XP, and follow the step by step instructions.

Gee, thanks man, so it is as simple as inserting in my case,Tiny Windows XP Beast Edition Cd and then following step by step by step instructions from the bootable cd

I can just hit clean install? from the booted cd

Ok, dont hijack the thread, but thats illegal. i forgot why but its something to do with dell.

On topic, will this work if the disc is on virtual drive ie. mounted(i know...but i didnt say anything about obtaining/etc.)

didn't mean to hijack anyone's thread...just figured it was similar to what i was asking...then decided it'd be easier to make my own thread. sorry.
