Price Check on HDD and Repair

So my laptop HDD is failing, I took it to my local PC Repair shop and he said I should get a new HDD.

He recommended a Western Digital 500GB Scorpio Hard drive for $190.00
For labour he charged $120.00 (both prices in AUD)
Im not that savvy with replacing things in laptops so I had him do it

He said he had to change the HDD, go back to Factory State with my Reset Disc then he would install all the current Updates for Vista (like Sp2)

Is that a fair price for labour and the HDD? I asked him to bring it down a bit but he said he couldn't.

He robbed you on the hard drive, you should have been able to get one for about $85 AUD and labor varies but i would have only charged about $60 AUD. So basically he took you for a ride, in my opinion anyway.
 
Yeah here in Australia computer repair shops like to charge this is probally about right for what you would pay for a hard disk drive replacement and restore to Vista SP2. I wouldn't worry too much as this is what the prices are like for just about every store here.
 
Man I think people in Jamaica is expensive. but you guys beat us. for replace hard drive and reinstall OS it would cost $140 us for the 500gb hard drive and US$70 for labour. Try to install it your self. it is not hard. go and read the sticky on desktop for how to build the computer with photo to get some confident and post here for people to help you to replace the hard drive.
