Printer Connections

I have a laptop computer and and printer that I like. The problem is that I had to get a cable to link the parallel of the printer to the USB of the computer. It doesn't work. The disk that came with the computer included a few inf and sys files, but I am not sure how to go about installing these to get the cable to work. Can someone help?

I don't know what operating system you but what Trizoy said should work. You should also be given the option, if the computer recognizes that there is new hardware, to install the needed files (you might need to tell it to look at in the CD for the file(s)).

Okay. I did that. It didn't work. The hardware information is:

Toshiba Satellite laptop. (3.2 GHz P4, 512 MB RAM)
Star TSP613 Receipt Printer. (Works with Quickbook Point of Sale program)

The company that I bought the connector from said that I was out of luck. They don't have anything that I can use to be able to hook that printer to the laptop. Is there anything that I can do to be able to use the printer?

The computer shows that the printed document is sent to the printer. There are no errors when printing. It is just that the document isn't printed.

What company did you get the parallel to USB converter? Was it a startech brand? Did you install the drivers for the printer (you mentioned a cd for the computer but not printer)? If you didn't and don't have the drivers for the printer here is a link that might help: http://all-software.com/drivers.htm

or

http://www.starmicronics.com/printers/printers_pages/support/drivers.html

Hope one or both help.

Yeah, make sure that the drivers are compatible with the OS that you are using. I would think that's part of your problem as well...

The driver for the printer is installed. The drivers for the convertor are installed. I hit print, it spools, but it doesn't print. The convertor was bought through the USBGear website. I talked to them. They said that there was no way for it to work. They said that their convertor is not compatible with the receipt printer. They said that they had nothing that would work.

Am I stuck? This receipt printer has a phone jack in the back so that I can hook up a cash drawer with it. I would like to be able to use it all. What do i do now?
