Printer not responding

My printer has been working fine all year, but it just recently stopped working.

Whenever I tell it to print, nothing happens. I checked the printer processes, and the computer shows documents waiting to be printed. I even restarted the printer a few times, which usually fixes the problem.

The printer said it couldn't communicate with the computer, but I checked, the power is working and the USB cable is hooked up.

When I try unhooking the USB cable and reinserting it, it makes a sound like when things usually get plugged into the computer, so I have no idea what is wrong. Any ideas? How can I fix it?:confused:

The printer model is a lexmark x2690
 
Just got through trying that but no luck. I went into printer and decices under control panel and removed it then reinstalled.

Any other ideas?
 
Check to make sure the printer spooler is running.

If running XP click start, click run, type "services.msc" without the quotes and hit ok. Find print spooler, double click on it and make sure its set to automatic and its started.

If runnning vista, windows 7 click start, in the search box type "services.msc" without the quotes and do the same thing.

You may want to try doing a system restore back to a day where the printer was working fine.

That more than likely only removed the printer software, not the drivers. To insure the drivers are gone, go to hardware manager and click, search for hardware changes(you have to right click to get the menu to pop up) If the drivers are off, then windows update will attempt to re install them...if you are using vista or 7 that is.
 
Tried all of it except for restoring to a previous date. I will probably just get another printer if that will be easier. I don't understand why it would be working all this time and for some reason quit one day.
 
Try installing the printer on another computer and see if it prints. If it does then you know something is corrupted within your system and buying a new printer won't work. Believe it or not, most of the time only a fresh install of windows will fix the issue.
