Printer on a homegroup

I have a Canon printer that is shared on my homegroup. I can access it remotely in order to print, but when trying to install the scanner control software on the other computers of the homegroup (apart that to which the printer is directly linked via usb), the installation program can't detect it's presence.
What can I do in order to use the scanner from all computers? How can I force the installation program to recognize the printer?

I expressed myself badly. The problem isn't with the installation program. The controller program works just fine, but when I try to scan something, it displays a message saying that no scan is connected to the computer, i.e. it can recognize the printer, when printing, but doesn't recognize the scanner. How can I share the scanner function through my homegroup?

Yes I have. It is exactly when using the navigator that I get the message.

I have read a forum thread in which a guy was having the same problem with another canon printer model. He emailed canon and got the aswer that his model wasn't able to scan through a network because of hardware and software characteristics. It seems that some models can't do it.
I've sent a email to canon, in order to see if my printer is among those, but didn't get an answer yet.
