I have an old Epson printer. worked fine when scanning in jpeg format, but has started to scan in pdf mode .how can I reset my printer to scan in jpeg mode ?

What exact printer? Are you using the Epson utility to scan? If so, just go into the scan settings and change scan output to whatever file output you need.
