Printer Sharing

Hi All

I have an Epson PX650 printer which i would like to be able to access from either my laptop (wireless) or my desk top pc via a usb cable.

First of all do i plug the usb cable from the printer directly in to the back of my desk top pc or does this cable go in to my router?

What settings do i need to change on my laptop and desktop in order for me to use the printer? If possible, i would like to be able to use the printer from my laptop without having to have my desk top switched on.

I am running Windows 7 on both machines.

Thanks in advance

Mark

Since the printer isn't wireless you will have to have it connected physically to one of the computers in order for it to print. And in this case it would have to remain on for you to be able to print from the other. You can also try gettting a wireless print server and hook it up, but most of them are iffy, depending on the printer you have.

Thanks Johnb35, i dont think i will bother with a printer server it sounds like they are too much hassel.

It's fairly simple to setup printer sharing in windows. The only problem is that when you share a printer (or any other device) it will require the server (computer that host the device) to remain on all the time for it to be accessible. Furthermore.. All you need to do is install the printer software, configure it, then right click on the installed printer, and click share. After that you will need to enter a name for the printer. Then, when you go to install the printer on the client computer, you just simply add the printer through the control panel.
