probably a bios problem

well ladies and gents i have recently seen an error screen that i will not soon forget.

i thank god that this is'nt happening to my computer or i would be pissed lol.

i am a tech guy at a local library and due to the computer illiterate town i live in you can imagine the kinds of viruses, spyware and garbage that patrons manage to contract while surfing the net and following mesmerizing flashing pop-ups that will soon net them millions of dollars as soon as they download their free software...i mean trojan virus.

one computer that has given me problems over the past several months is now heading for the garbage heap if i cant figure this out.

basically this is the chain of events leading to the demise of this comp.

1)computer freezes after several hours of use
2)compter freezes more and more frequently in less and less time to the point where it would only take minutes to lock up. at this point i have'nt had any posting or bios problems thus far
3)i try to format the computer the conventional way through windows setup but recieve errors when attempted to do so.
4) i use kill disk to wipe the hard drive completly i have no problems for 2 months.
5)recently i was told it was doing the same thing as it used to with the freezing but i have not been to the library in a while and it goes unchecked for some time
6) recently i came in to check on things and found that this computer freezes halfway through posting.
7)over the course of 1 hour and several restarts as i attept to trouble shoot the problem i watch the computer slowly degrade in stability.

see second post for rest of info

8) towards the end of this hour i restart the computer and before any posting or bios info is presented i am met with a gray screen and a small blue bar running left to right along the top of the screen. the blue bar is only wide enough to fit in "0_L" and then a small symbol that looks like the power of something (like you would see in math)

9)upon recieving this screen i decide a bios reset is in order, i remove the battery and reset it and then when i start the computer i got all the way to the screen that says "the computer was not shutdown properly last time do you want to boot in safe mode ,normal, ect, ect" i choose normal and the computer restarts and then i am met with the same gray screen and blue bar.

10)i get very angry and then visualise what i would like to do to the computer, that makes me smile and i go home to a computer that actualy works.

i have uploaded a video of the error on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afj5Ibj3fDc

i have no idea if steps 1-4 and steps 5-9 are related but from what i have heard from people that work here it did alot of the same stuff both times except for the gray screen but last time i never let it get that far.

this whole thing screams bios virus but i know how incredibly rare and unlikly that is

any input would be appretiated

-Phil
