Hello,

I am receiving 2 (Making it so i have 3 in total) new hard drives soon and i want to know how to get them to work together. Do i need to install anything or with they work by them self? I want to dedicate one to games.

Thanks

Riley

As long as you have enough SATA ports then you won't have any problems. Most people make the mistake of having one hard drive just for installed programs/games. The problem is, is that some games/apps will only install to the C drive and can't be changed. So it's always best to have the C drive for the operating system and programs/games and have the second drive or partition for personal data like pictures, music, office files, etc..

? Can you give examples? I've *never* run into that problem with Windows - that's what the 'advanced' option is for with program setup. Granted, I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I do have 10+ years with setup/maintenance on systems for both home and small business users.

The only time I can recall that it's been an issue is when installing specific (definitely *not* mainstream) Windows programs on a Linux setup.

ive had that problem several times usually on software from the internet using some kind of automated install process defaulting to the C: drive
if i can remember any examples i will post back

I've seen many and there is no advanced setup button on those programs. I can't recall any lately off the top of my head as I don't install a lot of programs. Maybe all the program vendors updated the install so you could change the directory. In fact, I used to do the same thing years ago and then I realized some games/apps couldn't be changed so I gave up.

Yes, I have some games where they only installed to the C drive... "CSI" - series PC games is an example.

As for certain 'software' required to get the HDD's working, just plug SATA ports to their respective connectors/ports and the system should boot up fine. After installing new HDD's, go to BIOS to make sure the first boot device is the HDD with your Windows files.
