i had a problem with my dell laptop, my cd-rom is not working, and my hdd have broke, so i have to change my hdd. so i read if i want to install windows on my new hdd, i first have to put it in laptop that have cd-rom, so i did. i installed windows on hdd from another laptop, and i putted it back to firs laptop, now the another laptop wont work  ... when i putted back it's own hdd, it wont start windows, i only get blank black window, and nothing. so what could go wrong?

if somebody have some idea, ill be glad to hear it... :), if you don't understand something, ask me.

Thanks!

d-oh! when windows detects a major hardware change, it invalidates and will give you grief.
EDIT: oops, i didnt understand the question the first time around. the first part still applies, but i think installing windows may have tinkered with the BIOS settings. i dont really know how to fix it, its pretty much out of my realm...
good luck, anyhow

...not to be rude or anything, but work on your english, I can barely figure out what's going on, but i got the jist. You cannot simply run windows off a hard drive that has windows installed on it if it was in another computer while it was installed. And obviously the other laptop wont work, it has no hard drive if I understand correctly.

Agh this is impossible. Try rewriting the paragraph, but use 'HARD DRIVE A' to match with 'LAPTOP A' and 'HARD DRIVE B' to match with 'LAPTOP B' or else no one will understand.

Thanks for your honesty...

yea, i guess i should do that, So I have HDD 1 on laptop 1, and HDD 1 is not working anymore, so i bought HDD 2 for my laptop 1, and cd-rom is not working on laptop 1, so i have to install windows xp on HDD 2 from laptop 2. So i take HDD 3 from laptop 2 out, and put in HDD 2, and everything is fine, i installed win xp on HDD 2 and i took it out. So i put HDD 3 (original HDD from laptop 2) back in, and turn on laptop 2, and it won't start windows. it loads bios, and then stops, i only get black window. that's it. (i think this is even more confusing)

I'm sorry for my english...

lol I understood it now, but uh...I have no idea why the same hard drive would suddenly not work on the same computer 0_0
