Problem connecting IDE hard drive

Hi guys,

i have a FOXCOMM 45CMX motherboard with 4 SATA connections and a single IDE slot. I am trying to connect a couple of old IDE hard drives (HD) but am having problems. I am tyring to connect a single one at the moment. I have set the HD pins to 'slave' and i have attached the slave IDE cable coming from the motherboard into the HD. The power cables are definitely working because i can hear the HD disk spinning. I have checked in the bios and in Windows, but the HD does not show up. This is a resaonably old HD (Maxtor 160 GB diamondmax plus 9, ATA/133). In the 'transfer mode' option, do i have to turn the DMA off in the primary and secondary IDE channel and use PIO only? Soooo confused, aaaaarrggghh !!! Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Pete.

You can't put it as slave if its the only hard drive in the system. It must be either set to master or cable select and put on the appropriate connector on the ide ribbon cable.

Sorry, i should have mentioned that my main hard drive is connected via SATA. I am just trying to get some data off these old IDE hard drives.

Thanks.
