problem installing a floppy drive

Been trying to install a floppy drive in my new Fijitsu seimens PC....

Hooked it all up fine with the new cable going into the motherboard, and the power cable hooked up. Green light illiminates ok on the drive....

BUT....

It won't show up on the MY COPMPUTER section in the PC, and it doesn't seem to be making any noises either, not even with a disk inserted.....
No 'found new harware' messages either and snothing wrong in the device manager....

Am I missing something?!
Shouldn't it just appear?!

maybe you have the option to search for new floppies when booting option off in windows?

i no this is a stupid question but is the pc on wen u plug the floppy in???

Go into the BIOS and make sure it knows that you have a floppy drive. The drive cable is position-sensitive, the first set of connectors are for Drive A and second set drive B.

sorry that was a stupid Q, did that today and it switched off

is the green light on the drive on all the time? if it is, then you have the ribbon cable on upside down. which would also cause it to not find the drive.

dose the cable have a red wire on the ribbon and if so the red wire should be towards the power connector
