Problem installing Catalyst™ 7.8. for X1650. Please Help...

I just bought an VGA Sapphire X1650 from Newegg.com. To my best understanding, the driver that came in the CD with the product is outdated. Therefore, I went on ATI's website and downloaded the newest driver for the x1650, which is the Catalyst™ 7.8. However, after installing the driver, I see corruption (flashing lines, dots, missing textures, missing icon images, poor resolutions, low colors, and many other graphical problems) on the screen, after I logged into Windows. I've asked around and many X1650 users seem fine with the new driver. I'm just wondering why I have this problem. Thanks.
 
make sure you are downloading the correct drivers, what OS do you have 32 bit or 64 bit..

I'll find em for ya.. :-P

If nothing else, go back to 7.7
 
I am using Windows XP Pro 32bit...I'm 100% sure that the driver is compatible. I checked on ATI website and that's what they gave me. I downloaded and installed it...but unfortunately it acted weird...
