problem installing xp to compaq presario v5000

so i have a problem, i have legal key for xp home edition, but i havent got any win cd so i downloaded it, but it doesnt work for that install, what's the problem?

Aside from not knowing how it doesn't work, downloading a copy of Windows is illegal. Chances are the copy you got has some kind of crack or something applied which very well could make it not work correctly.

What you really should do it find someone who has a legit copy of the disk and install using that, then use your key. This would eleminate the cause of bad burns, cracks, viruses, etc...
