Hi there,

basically, my computer fell over. It still switches on, but nothing comes up on the monitor. I have tried it on different monitors to check that.
I also opened the computer to take a look inside, there wasn't anything loose so I'm not sure what it might be, does anybody have any ideas?

Regards,
Colin

You might try unpluggin all cables and then putting them all back in just to make sure everything is connected properly.

Was the machine running when this happened? Normally, nothing would get damanged with just a small fall, espcailly if it wasn't running.

My guess would be the RAM or video card is loose. I guess just press on everything and make sure it's nice and tight. If it still won't work, try removing some cards and such to see if you can get some beep codes or something.

Thanks. I will try that. I did open the machin up and took a look inside but nothing appeared to be lose. I'll take another look though. The main problem really is that the HD has got valuable stuff on it and I need it, easy it easy to take the HD out and hook it up to another comp?

Oh yeah, I do it quite frequently. You just need to set the jumpers to "slave" (your hard drive should have a chart on it). And then you just someone's computer that they are willing to let you use to transfer the files to. Your drive will act as a secondary data drive and since it is set to slave, it won't try to boot the operating system from your drive only the master drive.

Sorry, Im a bit of a noob when it comes to the actual hardware, I kind of understood, but could you do a quick step by step for me?

Thanks :)

see the HDD 101, section4 there is a picture .. he's suggesting you set the problemDrive to slave (not all drives are jumpered the same way so a step by step isnt really doable)
