Problem opening .jpgs in Win 7

I haven't received my Dummy book on Win 7 yet so I am posting my question here. I transferred all my photos from My Pictures off my XP computer. But when I try to open them, I get a "This is not a valid Win 32 application". Maybe I'm dense, but I thought .jpg was a pretty standard file extension on both XP and Windows 7 and 8.

Does anybody know how I can convert these photos so I can open them and use them as I'd like?

Thanks for your help in advance

It sounds like your file associations got screwed up some how.

Anywho, I use IrfanView as my image viewer (you can do more with it than the Windows Picture Viewer).

You can download it here. When you install it, set it to open Images Only. That should restore any issues you have.

If you have any other file extension issues, post back and I'll provide you with another solution.

Have you tryed to restore (associate) the JPG (and other image extension types) to the basic already built-in Windows Picture Viewer?
Because...that default picture viewer is already built-in inside of Windows OS so you should be able to do it pretty easy.

Also...have you tryed opening those images in simple Paint program (which is also already built-in inside of Windows OS)?
