Problem! Random resolution-changing-like flashes

You know how when you change screen resolution, the screen will go black for a second and then flash back on at the new resolution? Well, my new computer does this fairly consistently and seemingly at random, but the resolution doesn't actually change.

EDIT: This computer is new - I just got it.

It's a P5N-E, C2D 2.66 GHz, 2 GB, GeForce 7950 GT 512 MB, 600 W PSU. Otherwise, the computer is really really fast, and while it's flashing, the mouse clicks I make still work, i.e. the image flickering is the problem. But this will not do.

In short, does this sound like hardware or software? If hardware, I want to send it back ASAP so I don't start having 30-day warranty issues. If software, I installed the chipset, video, and monitor drivers, so could I have done something wrong? The resolution is the monitor's native res at 1600 x 1200. Also, if this helps, when looking closely at the monitor (Samsung LCD that has worked wonderfully with my old computer), I can see pixels flickering around noisily, although it's not that noticeable from farther away. That's also an issue.

Please help!

Wow, weird. Could be a wrong refresh rate or bad video driver.

The dancing pixels are troubling, did it work fine at one point? Or has this issue been prevalent since you've gotten it?

Edit: I saw the part where you said the LCD worked fine on your old Pc. Try updating the video card driver with the latest from Nvidia.

Well, now it works. The flickering and the dancing pixels weren't there when I turned it on last night, and I haven't had a problem in almost two hours of use (and the flickering had been happening every three minutes or more).

Just for my peace of mind, that can't have been hardware, right? Or is it possible that hardware needs a "burn-in" period when it's new, before it settles into proper functioning?

If it was just a driver testing or something, is it normal for it to take that long to become acclimated to my system?

Thanks for your help!

there is no burn in period wiht PC parts...they work or they dont.....it sounds like a driver issue to me....but if it's not happening anymore don't worry too much about hardware...
