Problem showing media files on TV

Hi All,

I have just recently got my PC->TV connection working so that my TV clones the image on the monitor.

But whenever I try to play a video file, for instance using Windows Media Player 10 or PowerDVD, it plays normally on my computer monitor, but simply leaves a black square where the images should have been on the TV.
What could be the cause and is there a solution?

My gfx card is nVidia Geforce FX 5700, latest drivers installed.

Thanks a bunch

i've had problems recently with windows media player 10. the program was showing a black square just on the monitor. so... i redownloaded the program and it worked fine. Have you tried playing video files with any other programs besides Power DVD and WMP? I've also used Power DVD and that worked pretty well but i deleted the program since i dont watch dvd's on here that much.

try opening the video files w/ a different program and tell me what happens

Thank you for yor interest.

I have now tried the following applications:

Quick Time Player: Some quick time format videos COULD be displayed on the TV

BSPlayer: Same result as Win Mediaplayer

RealTime Player: Same result as Win Mediaplayer

Media Player Classic: Same result as Win Mediaplayer

I also installed the KaZaa-Lite Mega Codec Pack, but this apparently changed nothing.

Don't download anything that has to do with kazaa. they give you so many viruses, etc. and it takes up alot of space on your computer.

i would try to work with the quicktime more and try to find out why only some video files are being displayed

what types of movie files are you opening if you dont mind me asking. like do you have specific websites or something that you can show me?

It has to do with the video settings. The primary monitor will show video. I forget the exact setting adjustments, been a few years since I had that setup. You'll just have to play around with it till you get it to work.

have you tried hooking up the computer to a different television to see if the same problem keeps occuring even on there?

Haven't tried using another TV yet, will do that when I get the chance.

The video files I am trying to play are normal video clips, like South Park episodes, various movies etc.

I think I have found, if not the best one then at least an acceptable, solution:
It seems that the problem - as Yeti correctly points out - is that the video files can only be displayed on one screen at a time, so when i changed my TV screen to be my primary screen instead of my computer monitor, the issue was reversed so that my monitor would not play video files, but my TV would...

The strange thing is then, why can Quick Time format video clips be played simultaneously on both screens? This whole issue seems rather weird to me anyway

Couyld anyone recommend where to find a codec pack to replace the K-lite one then?

Thanks for your inputs.

idk about the codec but i can conclude that as stated before... the configurations are probably a source to why the files are only playing on one monitor/tv at a time.
