Problem trying to do a full restore on Sony desktop

I am trying to do a full restore back to factory settings on a desktop and when the computer restarts after putting recovery disk 1 in, I keep getting the message: Pri Master Hard Disk: S.M.A.R.T. Status Bad, Backup and Replace. Press F1 to Resume. I click F1 and it goes back to windows. Any suggestions on how to bypass this and get the computer to load from the recovery disk? Any other way to do a full restore?

Replace the hard drive and then boot to the recovery disk. Your hard drive is going bad. The issues you were having are probably because of this drive going south on you.

You may be able to disable smart monitoring in the BIOS (I can on my Vaio), and that will bypass the warning, but like john said, your HD is likely on its last leg. You can probably find specific instructions at the support page.

I actually disabled this feature. Two years later the HD began clicking and I had to replace it.
