Problem updating Silverlight

I'm trying to watch a video and it says Silverlight is out of date. I go to the FF add ons page and Silverlight needs to be updated, says my version is 5.1.30514.0, latest is 5.1.50428.0. So I click the link in FF to the update and when I get there it says:

The version of Silverlight installed is:
Silverlight 5 (5.1.30514.0)

You are ready to use Microsoft Silverlight

Doesn't offer an update. So I find the update manually and download it, but when I run it it says a newer version is already installed.

The hell is going on??

This keeps getting stranger:

I uninstall the current version and I install the latest, 5.1.50428.0. I restart FF and I look at the add ons page and it says I have 4.0.50524.0 installed. Older than what I had!!

Additionally, before I uninstalled the initial version, the addons page said that I had 5.1.30514.0, but then below that in a rectangle it said 5.1.50428.0. (which is the latest).

But NOW, it says I have 4.0.50524.0, AND it says the same thing in the rectangle. I had assumed the rectangle showed the latest version, but now...

Anyway, I thought maybe I accidentally installed an older version, so I go to a DIFFERENT site and again download the latest version and it tells me I can't install because the same version is installed.

EDIT:

Oh, and, then I click on update now in the FF add on menu, and, at the update page, it tells me that the latest version is 5.1.30514.0, which is NOT the case according to wiki and another microsoft page.

EDIT 2:

This is truly comical.

When I go to

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/

it tells me, about Silverlight that the latest version is 5.1.30514.0 and that MY version is 5.1.30514.0 and is outdated

Isn't Silverlight installed independently of browsers? I got Opera, too, and it tells me SL is out of date there, too.

Did you try removing silverlight from the plugin area first? You can also try refreshing firefox so it resets everything.

You can't remove it from the add on menu.

Regarding refreshing, I restarted FF after every updated to make sure it takes.
