Problem with CCleaner Free

CCleaner Free keeps giving me a message saying Google Chrome must be closed, even when it is. Then it asks if I want to close it. I click Yes & after a few seconds, it says it;s taking too long & asks if I want to force it to close, but that doesn't work either. It ends up skipping cleaning Google Chrome of junk files

Check the taskbar and make sure Chrome is closed. If you have external apps such as Hangouts running you'll get that message.

Exactly what was mentioned. You more than likely have an extension that is hooked to Chrome running in the background. Press & hold Control + Shift and tap Delete. Go to Task Manager and you should see what's running. You can right click Chrome or it's child objects (for lack of a better word) and kill the process.

In addition to Ccleaner, check out System Ninja. You might be surprised what it finds.

Google Chrome was closed. The only extension I had enabled was "Webroot Filtering" which puts a check mark beside every search result my Webroot Secure Anywhere antivirus deems safe. I disabled it & I'll see what happens when I try to run CCleaner next time. Thanks
