Problem with CD DVD drive

Hi

I'm trying to install a game on my laptop, but when I put the DVD in, it spins then stops repeatedly and sort of buzzes as it tries to read it.
This happens on some CDs but not others. The cd is completly spotless as the game is new and the laptop hasen't been dropped.
What could be the problem?
Could I rig a desktop cd drive onto the laptop or install it on another computer then transfer it? Any other ideas?
thanks ever so much

I'm having the same issue. I'm beginning to think that my drive, at least, is dying or dead. It's pretty frustrating. I looked up external CD/DVD drives, and they are anywhere from 40-100 dollars on newegg. I wonder why this is. Anyway, you're not the only one who is having this problem.:(

Your drive has 2 different lasers/eyes for reading disks. One for cd's and one for dvd's. Most likely one has gone out or has become flaky. You can try blowing compressed air to see if maybe its dirty but most likely the eye is bad and the drive needs to be replaced.

I'm not suprised, just to add something, the cd now works.
It does this sometimes.
I'm getting a new computer soon so it doesn't matter that much.
Thanks for your answer.

Why put the post up if it dont matter what the result.:)

CD/DVD drives are easy malfunctioners (to put it that way) especially cheap ones. Your best bet is to get a better known drive such as Asus, LG, Sony any of the well respected brands as atleast they will offer you a more respectable warranty.

I am having problem with my DVD ram drive these days.....

My system can't identify it in the bios setup panel...

If the bios doesn't recognize it then its either a bad drive or loose data or power cables going to the drive.
