Problem with DVD/CD-ROM

I just upgraded my computer with 2GB's of RAM and a new graphics card along with a 500w power supply. And now I was looking to reformat my computer and make it Windows 7(was Windows XP). But my DVD/CD-ROM won't open up. I manually opened it and put my Windows 7 disk in but it seem to not even read the disk. The computer was a friends and he gave it to me so I'm not 100% sure if it worked or not, but he told me it did. I checked my Device Manager and my DVD/CD-ROM drive isn't even visible. So I am thinking it might be that. Does anyone know what the problem could be? And does anyone know where I can download this Driver, if this is the problem? Please help :(

Is it a sata or IDE cdrom drive? Open the case and see if the cable is attached to it. You should have a power and a data cable going to it.

LOL, don't feel bad. I did this with my HDD after I built this system over a month ago. The drive wasn't even hooked up and I thought my drive took a dump. :)
