problem with dvd drives

I am having strange problems with my dvd drives. I have 2 different dvd-rw drives, one that came with the computer and the other I put in myself(Sony DRU-810A). Now whenever I put a blank cd-r in the Sony drive, it says there is 0 bytes of space. On the drive that came with the pc, whenever I try to burn something to it, the first try it puts a music track on there and nothing else and says cannot complete writing wizard. I try to play the track but it won't play. Sometimes I can use the same cd and try to burn the files again and it will work but does not show the music track. And when I insert that same cd, the autoplay box calls it an audio cd but there is no audio files on there. Can anyone explain this?

It is possible to have the box checked that says "enable cd recording on this drive" on both drives? If not does it automatically change to the drive that the cd is in?

Doesn't windows xp come with software for putting stuff on cd's? Before now I have always been able to drag files to the drive.

I think you can make "burn folders" or something like that, but I've never used Window's built in burning utility. Deepburner works just fine, and has the ability to burn ISOs...

Well I did try deepburner once and still didn't work right. I used it to put some pictures on a cd and everything seemed to work fine but when it completed the burn, it did not eject the disc and it said 100% complete but the time was still moving. I tried to eject the disc but that didn't work. I eventually just closed the program but still couldn't get the disc out so then I tried to shut down the computer and it wouldn't do that either so I had to hold the power button until it went off. The amazing thing is all the pictures were on the cd. I will have to try to make another one and see how it goes.

I still don't understand why before I just drug the files to the cd icon and that always worked for me.

What speed was the burn and how long did you wait? I've had some pretty long "lead in/lead out" times...

As for dragging stuff, I just tried it and I got a little notification on the task bar. What's it do now. If nothing, there's probably a burning service that has gotten disabled somehow.
