problem with firefox and Windows explorer the same thing

Will have the computer shut off and put in password and the keyboard does not work. Replaced keyboard and same thing. Reboot again then both keyboards work.

2nd:
Go into firefox and scroll down maybe to see who's on line. It resizes the screen rotating the wheel on the mouse. Keyboard works then try explorer and can't change the site like to wallstreet to check stock for example.
Go back to firefox and works fine then. Then it does it again. then reboot then the keyboard does not work. And yes, ive changed usb. then reboot then the keyboard works for either keyboard. Its working now. Rotate the wheel on mouse and scrolls fine.

Any ideas what in the blue moon is going on?
Got a feeling my only option will be a wipe and reinstall.

Couple of suggestions..

intermittent usb issue, could be from failing motherboard or issue with power supply.

Not sure if resetting cmos would help or not. Uninstall usb drivers from device manager, reboot and let them reinstall. Then test.
