Problem with graphic card

My cpu is phenom II 555, graphic card is HD 5770, and the motherbaord is M4A88T-M 880G ASUS.

Unfortunately I have an old screen (not lcd which forces me to use some convertor, I am planning on buying a new screen...)

I am using xp sp3.

I installed the driver that came with the card and the graphic is really bad, isntead of trees I see green leaf-y pluses sort of thing and lotsa holes in the
3d.

I tried updating the driver but it collapsed my graphics. Apparently I chose the wrong driver to install....
I am afraid my screen is not compatible with the card.
(before installing a new driver should I remove the prev 1?, just a side question)

And when I googled it , it gave me a driver for win 7 (which I am getting tomorrow).

Please, if you happen to know of the latest driver let me know, is it really a card for win7+lcd screen, or can it be used on xp with old screen?.

1 more thing, my computer sees the installed card as 5700 series, though on the box it says 5770 series (the driver I tried to install which collapsed all the graphic settings was HD series)

I apologise for not mentioning it but, I have just installed a clean system of a newly built computer.

The dx is 9 since (by what I understood) there is no 11 for xp.

Thoguh the card manual claimed it;s enough, not that it seems like it.
I got my xp update to get me a new driver but it crusehd (gray-greenish colors as if there is absolutely no driver).

It says minimal req os:
windows 7
windows vista
Windows xp with sp 2 (I have xp with sp 3)
windows xp professional x64 edition

My hardware is more than sufficient.

Where can I find a xd to download? (mine came with the card), I get lost in microsoft website, how do I know what is the dx and what is wierd ds components that I do not need?

When I came to post this thread, I already was after trying to find a better driver and unfortuantely couldn;t find any.

Hi,

So, your getting Win7 tommorow?

If it is an option, dont use the PC until you're installing Win7.

When you install drivers, if you are installing a different brand to your previous graphics card (for example, you are upgrading from Nvidia to ATI), always uninstall the previous drivers before installing the new ones.

Also, its important to make sure you install the exact driver to match your card.

The latest version of DirectX (Dx) you can use on an XP machine is Dx9.0c, this isnt something you need to configure though, just place the card in your machine, remove previous drivers, download and install new drivers.

When I go to my motherboard status (through software (windows), not bios), it says:

"No VGA detected. Please install a compatible VGA card or install and enable the ASUS SmartDoctor. For the list of compatible VGA cards. refer to

http://event.asus.com/mb/EPU-4_Engine/ "

I went there and couldn;t find my vga, is it just me? no ATI 5770, but I don't see any nvidia 450 gts either, is it just me or something is really wrong with the motherboard? like not supporting my vga? (the motherboard was about the only thing I didn;t choose myself but was adviced by the seller).

I sometimes get teh error messege the vga couldn;t comunicate with the driver and thus been reset.

Or another error about some MMACEPrev.exe...I dunno what it means though, I can;t send the error info to the company since I don't have outlook.
I have hotmail, not email.
