Problem with hard-drive

I have a Windows 2000 NT PC with 2 hard drives, 75GB each, partitioned into one 150GB D: Drive. Recently, one of the drives began making noises and ultimately both the drives failed to show up in "My Computer" as D: Drive. The one that made noise was the "Master" drive. I am wondering if there is anyway to recover any data from any of the two drives.

If by "partition into one 150GB" drive you meant RAID0 than no there's no way to recover any data off either drive (and even if you did recover data off one drive, it would be useless without data from the other drive). Now if you goto data recovery specialists that might be a different story but anything short of that I dont think any recovery is an option :)

I did not install that particular computer myself. So I am unsure if it is a RAID or was partitioned. If recovery is impossible, would i still be able to use one of the drives by formatting it somehow?

Odds are both harddrives are perfectly functional (and just require a format). If it is in fact a RAID0 setup then you might as well format both HDDs (i think) since one HDD is useless without the other (alas the folly of striping). If you're really concerned about recovery, have a look into data recovery specialists .... i'm not to sure on the intimate details of data recovery of striped drives :)
