Hello computerforum
i have a problem with IBM thinkpad and i will make it quick because i dont want to waste your time

1.i press the power button and the computer will start booting up
2. i will be in boot logo for xp (in that windows xp proffesional picture)
3.blue screen of death like they call it , so now im in the blue screen where writes " the problem has
been detected and computer mus be shutdown to prevant damage to your computer
4.after step 3 i will get back in the windows xp proffesional picture and all starts again

the problem is that i need to get my information back from that computerand i think maybe i can get it
if i enter the live cd , but what live cd i must enter to see HDD?

after that i can reinstall windows and all should work fine ?

Any Linux Live CD should let you get your data off. I would suggest the Ubuntu 10.04.3 system from www.ubuntu.com.

As for your OS, I don't think installing a new one will help you. BSOD more times than not is caused by hardware. I would test your RAM using MEMTEST to start with.

You can also test the OS for maleware if you can boot to safe mode (you hit F8 when booting).

What blue screen code was on the screen? Example 0x00000050. That should help determine whats causing it. It may also list a file name causing the issue.
