Problem with Linux

basically, I installed a version of linux, and when I start the computer I get a screen saying the following:

GNU GRUB version 0.93 (639k lower / 523136k upper memory)

[Minimal BASH-line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename.]

grub>

When I type any command I just get an error number and the message "Kernel must be loaded before booting".

So I tried to reinstall windows, but I can get it to boot from the CD, it just takes me to the screen which is quoted above. Even though I press "c" in order to get the CD to boot.

What can I do?

you should try repairing your maser boot record.
here is a link to help you out http://www.cyberwalker.net/columns/sep98/090398.html

also to create the boot disk - proceed as if you were going to format a floppy, but when you get to the option to "quick format" etc. you should see another option like "create boot disk" or "copy system files". choose either one of these and it should work.

not to forget, according to the website the command is "FDISK/mbr".
