Problem with my PC's file system (I think)

Hi Guys. Well I am facing a weird problem from the last couple of months. Two three months ago I had installed Linux (Fedora core 2) on my system along with XP. Then I formated the drive which had fedora on it. Soon after that format, when I reinstalled my Xp back, I started to face problems with my XP. The problem was that when I used to lock some of my folders with folder security, my recycle became inaccessible. Also my combo drive wasn't responding properly , meaning when I insert a disk, it doesn't show the name and icon of the disk on the CD drive icon in my computer unless I restart my computer. This surely is not a big problem but the problem arises when I am burning a CD. Every time I try to burn a CD I have to first insert an empty CD and then restart my PC before it starts reading that CD as an empty CD otherwise the OS says that there is no empty CD in the drive. The I formated my computer completely and fixed the MBR. After that I reinstalled my XP and the system was working properly but recently it had began to show the same symptoms and this time it's even worst. Now a days when I try to install a software, it takes about 10 - 15 mins to go through the initial few windows (where it prepares the install shied and the rest of the stuff). Please can someone tell me how can I fix this problem without formating my hard drive. Also I have five partitions on my Hard Drive.
c: Fat 32 (5 GB)
D: Fat 32 (7 GB)
E: Fat 32 (5 GB)
F: NTFS (55 GB)
G: Fat 32 (2.5 GB)
Is it OK to have an NTFS between two FAT 32. (Just curious)

How many physical drives do you have there? XP will go onto any Fat32 partition. Is it the best recommendation? NO! Why? XP is based on the older NT-2000 NT cored OS. NTFS offers far fewer problems with the improvements available on this type or partition over the now outdated Fat type!

How large is the drive about 30gb total? You can easily create one primary NTFS primary partition followed by a single sized storage partition on the small drive there. That can also be NTFS. This will standardize the partitions for XP, Vista, and eventually Vienna? unless you are planning to dual boot with an older version of Windows like 9X-ME?

Thank You PC eye for the welcome and response.
I have 1 hard drive and it's about 80 GB. So, if I convert from FAT to NTFS, then my problem will be solved?

If you are not going to try dual booting one of the older 9X-ME versions of Windows then NTFS would be the actual preferred and best type. From the early NT 3.5 to Vista all versions besides the old Fat based dos shelled versions run better on NTFS. XP simply allows a versatility in being able to install onto an older Fat system while preserving the file structure of existing data.

With the drive you have there being 80gb you have the option of having a second partition for backup and storing files or a possible dual boot with a different version of Windows(newer maybe) then what you have now. The extra partition works when you have few programs and may files to keep. Other then that or a dual OS the single primary and frequent backups onto removable media is the most commonly recommended.
