Problem with opening software

I downloaded a programme and it came down as a "bin file" am I right in saying that this can only be opened on a Macintosh? I am using Windows xp and cannot open the software. Is there any way of converting it so can be used on Windows or am I just stuffed?

not necesarily, it could be an image of a cd-rom. if the file is big i would suggest that it is an image file that needs to be burnt to disk
