Ok.....have a directory which i created a family slide show for family. it has a lock on the 2nd hard drive directory. im done with it now and finished the final show with many backups. i want to delete the directory and free up about 10gig.

I can go into the directory easy enough. go to delete and this is the error.

You need permission to perform this action. you require permission from admin to make changes to this folder.

Windows 7 Pro
Im the only admin
I have to back up profiles with admin rights to switch to in case the primary profile get corrupted. they all say the same thing. need admin rights. everything runs fine on the net and never suspected any problems with rights that i know of.
any ideas?

go to Properties-> Security-> Advanced-> Owner tab, and even right now the Owner is called TrustedInstaller for me, just hit edit click your user and check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects." and hit apply

No...... i tried the 1st and stepped through it. i will have to go back and check my settings. the lock is still there.

the program i installed and read at cnet. did not work. then again i checked for upgrades and none. and no it said Vista and XP. did not say anything about win 7. ver was the same at the site. Yes i will persevere. when i find it i will post back. not just for you but if i have the problem again i will know where i put the answer. it will be here.
thanks

got it. it was a brain fart.
started up in safe mode and just deleted the folder. no problem.
