Problem with random distorted dots appearing [video]

Hey CF
could you watch this vid i've recorded- showing the problem I'm having? You can see it right at the begnning on the msn logo all the distortedness and when i move my mouse about and hover over icons. Anyone have any ideas?

Sorry for the poor quality I recorded it at 720P but converted it so i could upload a 20mb file instead of a 190mb one.
 
That looks like you are having issues with your GPU - possibly overheating. Check to make sure the fan is working and not caked with dust. It could also just be dying.
 
Just to reinforce what's already been said, I'm fairly certain your video card is dying. Going by the model of card you have it's probably at least a couple of years old, right? Usually when you start getting very strange artifacting like that it's a problem with the vid card dying. Sometimes, it might be the drivers acting up, but that's pretty rare.
 
Thanks guys it was the GPU replaced it with an 8600GT today and it works perfect now. I think I found the problem with the GPU one of the capacitors appears to have blown.

that capacitor is toast... if you're any good with a soldering iuron you could replace the capacitor (You need one of exactly the same specs though.)
 
Yeah the 8600GT is running awesome- I might look into replacing the capacitor beacuse if everything else is running okay it seems a waste to throw it away- might be able to use if i want to build a really cheap computer.
 
Glad to hear the new card is working for you salman. I have replaced some bad capacitors on an old 7800GT before that had the same problem. It's doable. That one looks like it would be easy to do, too.
