Here's the problem, my IDE dvd burner was working fine, the drive is going out slowly, but it still burns dvd's, i bought a sata interface dvd player and when i install it and try to use it, it only freezes everything up, the applications i have up already keep running, but background applications can't be accessed, now the thing is, before i installed windows xp service pack 2, the IDE inerface dvd burner burned just fined, it would just freeze every once in a while, now that I have service pack to, it just fails over and over again, doesn't even try to burn, and the SATA interface DVD player will read, but it wont write......okay, any ideas, if you have any i would much appreciate them, i just started my computer classes, so any help i can get on my problems to help others in the future would be much appreciated from you guys.

If you added another drive to your PC it could be that you don't got enough juice to power all your System. By updating to SP2 it will use more RAM. Check how much Ram you got to ram your using. Go with 1gb or ram so you don't have issue.

I have a 2.00 ghz pentium 4 with 1 gig ddr, maybe i'll just expand it to 2 gig, but i'm sure it might be something else, i just can't figure it out.

maybe the sata drive has problem. I used sata drive along with ide, they both works good.
check the cables. and try the sata-drive with other computer. maybe you can find your problem there.
