Problem with Soyo SY-P4I845GVISA MoBo

Hi:

One of my computers uses a SOYO SY-P4I845GVISA motherboard. I need drivers for it. The Mobo came with a CD that says it has drivers for it but when I try to install I get an error message saying that the CD does not contain the drivers.

I try to get from the internet but all those download sites link to the Soyo company's websites. Sadly, Soyo does not exist anymore. They filed for bankruptcy and are no longer active so I can't contact them for tech support and all their websites are down.

Is there any safe way to get all the drivers necessary for complete operation of that PC? How?

I don't want to trash the MoBo because it has ISA slots which I need for my SoundBlaster 16 ISA sound card. I like my SB16 because it has an FM synth which I just love the audio quality of. In addition, SY-P4I845GVISA is the highest-quality MoBo with ISA slots.

Thanks a bunch,

Green Xenon

I would imagine they are on there. Soyo wouldn't give a disk (I'm assuming that this is the OEM disk) without the drivers. What you may have to do is install the drivers through the hardware manager.

Second, what operating system are you using? Since SOYO went out of business it might be that you cannot find anything for support above XP from any of the standard driver sites. But there is a possible work around.

That board uses an i845 chipset. If you go to Intel and look at the listings they have for that chipset series, you may be able to find a driver for that chipset that will work.

Intel i845

I can also see what else I can come up with or check my archives and see if I have an i845 soyo driver as I have several soyo boards lying about my shop.

Thanks for your response. My OS is Windows 98SE.

Also, where is the hardware manager which I can use to install the drivers.

Thanks again,

Device manager.. Forgot that 98se terms it that way.

Right click "my computer" go to "properties" you should then get a box that has device manager in it.

It has been a while since I used 98SE so exactly how it is worded or laid out is a bit fuzzy.

Ok. I did what you're saying but Windows is still "unable to locate" a driver for the devices.

Ok. I did what you're saying but Windows is still "unable to locate" a driver for the devices.

Try this procedure.

Install Device Drivers in Windows 98 With the Add New Hardware Wizard

Step 1

Click "Start," "Settings" and "Control Panel." Double-click "Add New Hardware."

Step 2

Click "Next" twice to make Windows 98 search for the device whose drivers you wish to install. Look in the results list for the brand and model of the device. If you don't see your device in the list, click "No, the device isn't in the list." Click "Next." Select "No, I want to select the hardware from the list," and click "Next" again.

Step 3

Select the type of hardware for which you would like to install the drivers. Click "Next."

Step 4

Insert the installation disk for the device in the proper disk drive, or download the drivers to your hard drive from the manufacturer's website. Click "Have Disk." Click "Browse." Navigate to the disk drive and folder that contains the *.inf driver files. Click "OK" twice.

Step 5

Select the correct driver for your hardware. Click "OK" and "Finish."

Step 1

Click "Start," "Settings" and "Control Panel." Double-click "System." Select the "Device Manager" tab.

Step 2

Browse the list in Device Manager until you see the category to which your hardware belongs. Click the plus sign next to the category to expand the list of installed devices. Right-click the device whose driver you would like to install, and select "Properties."

Step 3

Click the "Driver" tab. Select "Update Driver." Click "Next." Select "Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now." Click "Next."

Step 4

Insert the disk that contains the drivers for the device in the disk drive, or download the drivers from the manufacturer's website. Select your device from the list within the window. Click "Have Disk."

Step 5

Click "Browse." Find the folder that contains the .inf files for the device. Click "OK," and then click "Next."
