hey,

Im having a problem with steam. Last week I downloaded steam to get ready for when RO (http://redorchestragame.com/) which is going to be released over steam. When it finished updating it gave me that error, and then sunday it finally worked until monday afternoon when it stopped connecting to the server. I uninstalled it and its giving me the winsock error. I googled it and I asked on the steam forums but the one persons advice who responded to my post didnt fix the problem. Also when updating steam it takes forever does anyone know how to fix that?

thanks

have your tried reinstalling it again? i havent been on steam lately but it could be somthing wrong with thier server...

you cant fix that. the steam servers are slo and their is soo many people so it takes a while to update.

There is a port you can open and forward to your router, I forgot which one check the steam FAQ's, it helped me A little.

Ive been reinstalling and reupdating about 3 times a day since tuesday and still no luck. How does port forwarding work? I mean Im at a university housing complex so I dont have a router in my room just a jack in the wall to connect to for the DSL. I read that some Universities might shut down the ports you need but Im asssuming if this was the case then I wouldnt even be able to update or it wouldnt even have worked on sunday and monday.

If I were to buy a boxed version of a valve game would I have to go through all the BS of having to update? Because I might just buy a cheap version of DOD or CS and avoid having to do it online if at all possible.

well its working now, it updated and didnt give me any BS errors.

So were the problems with my computer or was it a problem with the steam server?

edit: its no longer working its giving me the 10053 error again, I just reinstalled zone alarm
