Problem with transferring movie to external HD

Hello, I have an external hard drive which has a capacity of around 1TB, and I'd like to transfer a movie that's 5GBs from my desktop into the external hd. When I attempt to do this, however, a message appears which says "The file is too large for the destination file system." I've tried compressing it, but the file is still too big. Are there any ways to remedy this? Thanks!

Backup all your data on the drive and format it to NTFS. It's probably formatted to FAT32 currently which can't transfer files over 4GB in size.

Incredible. Your knowledge of technology never ceases to amaze me, Linkin. I'm going to attempt your suggestion soon, I'm sure it'll work. Thanks!

Sweet, just formatted it, worked perfectly. Turns out it was already set to NTFS, but the allocation unit size was 4096 bytes. Just changed it to 64 kilobytes. :P

That's odd. Allocation size shouldn't affect that.
