problem with video driver in HL2

While playing half life 2 the game crashes and i recieve the message Application Error: The exception unknown software exception 0x0c0000005 at location 0x241f94f7. Something makes me think is video driver related... If you look at the attachement you'll see just what I mean. If for some reason you can't view it. It just basically says in half life that my video driver is 6.14.10.7184 and that it's outdated. Yet it clearly says in i have version 7.1.8.4 installed according to control panel>device manager>display adapters>NVIDIA Geforce 6800 series GPU>drivers. I currently have windows professional XP x64 edition. Does anyone think going back to windows XP professional w/ SP2 will do the trick? Call me paranoid but i just have suspicions about these 64 bit drivers. Can anyone help? I've been waiting so long to play this game and now that i've fixed my computer from freezing... I have to deal with another problem....I'm getting quite frustrated with this computer.

hmmm, did you try uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling it? i had that problem too, but that was because it was outdated. lol

Hmmmm....
OK, so nvidia are releasing 64 bit drivers, but at the same time 64 bit XP is still beta, so it's not too strange you hit problems.

The 0xC0000005 error can't possibly be "unknown" ... it's the defacto "access violation" error code !! .. been around for years.
It occurred at address 0x241f94f7, right?.

So now I'm a little confused. Your 64 bit OS is crashing in a 64 bit driver, but giving a 32 bit address ??.
OK, so I haven't tried 64 bit yet (way too early for me to trust it enough), but it is interesting to see 32 bit error codes and addresses reported from a 64 bit system, huh ?

IMHV, I'd stick with tried and trusted 32 bit for a while longer yet if I were you ;)

:) it boggles the mind doesn't it? Actually, since HL2 is a 32bit app so it makes more sense then it would seem at first.

Its still in beta? Regardless, 64bit NV drivers have been pretty stable but if for some reason, one doesnt work, try another rev :) Might be a combination of HL2 and the driver rev being problemsome

oh I see so they do say the same driver... but then why is it say its outdated, I guess cause HL2 doesnt like the driver?
