Hi Guys,

I am fairly new to the world of computer technology and love to play and mess around with my computers. I love to learn new things and could really use soem advise on how to fix my issue.

So I have an older Dell Latitude D400 Laptop. (I know its old and is not worth the time to fix but I like the challenge and it is a good comp to learn on) I have evrything backed up. My fiance somehow got a nasty virus on the laptop. Maybe even more than one. This thing destroyed my AVG 8.5 and somehow erased all of the AVG user interface, it made my computer unable to restore to an earlier date and it is constanlty redirecting me from site that I need to go to. I ran AVG in safe mode and pulled out some twunk 32 virus. Later I did a search of sytems and folders and ot was still there. So I tried to manually delete the .exe file and it would come back as soon as I deleted it. So I uninstalled AVG and tried to reinstall it budt I get error messages and cannot reinstall AVG.What do I do?

I have three external hard drives and was thinking maybe I could some how install AVG or similar on the external hard drive then run my Dell of of that. I have other comps I could use to move stuff around or scan with.

I am fairly new to this stuff and really would appreciate any advice. Any links or further explanation of complicated terminogy would also be helpful.

Thanks

if it were me, i would just reinstall the os. way easier to do. try downloading malware software. what other hard drives do you have (internal)?

I think what you ask for is a tall order. To successfully repair an infected and corrupted system is a difficult task for anyone to undertake and guarantee good results. Hidden malware "seeds" can hide on your system and reinfect your system despite your best efforts to eliminate them. It's probably best to recover all the files you can on a separate drive, scan them with a good anti-malware application and then wipe your system and do a fresh install of the operating system. In all likelihood it's what you'd end up doing anyway, after a lot of frustrating work.
