problem?

just bought a new desktop and my dvd player will not play regular dvd movies but it will install cd programs like nero 7 and others. what could be the issue

it is a gateway gt5082 comp with amd, nvidia and windows xp.... help me out
 
What are you using for a dvd player? Windows Media Player or another software? With WMP you would probably be missing a video codec needed. One player that works great for playing dvd movies as well as video cds is Cyberlink's PowerDVD. It installs easy and plays a large variety of video file formats. but the first day i got it it worked and played the movies de railed and cinderella man.... it say that a device is missing even if i play it thru media center or windows media player... do u think it could be a bunk dvd player?
