Problem!

Please help!

I’m running windows ME (I know, that’s most of the problem right there) and I have 256M of RAM, and Pentium 3. I’m in the process of building my dream computer, so I need this heap to hold out for another month or so until I get it done.

Anyway, for some reason, when I start my computer it starts in 16 color and on the lowest resolution setting! I can not change it! When I change the setting and restart the computer, it doesn’t change. The only thing that I can think of happening is that a few weeks ago I bought a new 19 inch flat panel LCD monitor and when I did I changed the resolution to 1280x1024 (highest setting). I’m wondering if my POS computer/power supply couldn’t keep up with it.

I broke down and took it into a local computer repair shop and they said that there was nothing wrong with it.

Sounds like a driver problem, get some of the latest drivers for your video card and that should help.

I tried downloading the updated driver to my other computer since my main one won't connect to the internet. It won't read any disks either. I don't know how it's going to get the updated driver. :(

The shop said nothing is wrong with it! How would it have worked for them and not for me?
Never trust shops....

Why would it have worked fine for two weeks and then all of a sudden not?
Dunno, but a driver update should do the trick :)

1. Why wont it connect to the net?
2. What are your system specs?

Yep thats it

Yep I'm pretty sure that's your problem. Not to mention ME is one of bills worst operating systems :D

Also

Mebe the flat screen can't handle that high a reasolution. I set up someones computer once and the resolution wouldn't go any higher than 1024 by 768 so try setting it to 1024 by 768. And if that doesn't work get the driver

It's just a cheapo flat screen from Acer, but the instructions say to set the resolution to 1280x1024 for "best results". Anyway, the shop called me back and apparently it has nothing to do with the screen or the video driver.

It all started when I was printing some pages out and the computer just shut down. Apparently, it did something where some data was lost. They ended up re-installing ME and it works fine now.

LOL! Did I say LOL!!? if not then LOL! :-P Sorry but for some reason my blood started to boil when I read that. I reread your first post and I could not find that there anywhere. You do know you wasted our time as well as yourself?

When you have a problem you cannot get the proper help if you leave out half the information. Kinda like going to the doctor and telling them everytime you sit down you hurt and the doctor wastes his time look at your ars and you forgot to mention that you lay your head on the headrest of the chair and the pain is actualy in the back of your head LOL.

Errr Sorry aramp1 but I was annoyed for some reason and prob. should not have been but please share all the info next time thanks.

aramp1 I must appologize for my behaviour as it was uncalled for and I'd like to welcome you to these forums which I like to frequent :-). It would have been more constructive to point out your error in finding help rather then be little they way I did.

Anyhow it's very helpfull to the rest of us if you share all information and that includes and perhaps most importantly what you did b4 your trouble began and you'll find that the responses to your question will be more usefull ;-).

No problem. I see your point and I do realize that all details will be helpful in the future. :o I am in the process of building my own dream machine for the first time, so much of my free time is spent here reading and taking in information. Thanks for the welcome and no hard feelings.
