Problems after disabling Windows Vista UAC

Hi guys,

After I disable windows vista UAC (Through Control panel> Users). I lost all my icons in my desktop, as well as all firefox bookmarks.....

If I enable it, I got all my items back.....

What should I do so that I can disable UAC and keep my files/setting?

Thx.

One thing that comes immediately to mind would be seeing a second admin account created and seeing the UAC disabled for it. You could then try importing the settings and bookmarks followed by deletion of the first account once that was set up the way you wanted it.

When going to install or reinstall Vista here the UAC is about the first thing taken care of. But the idea there would be seeing the UAC out of the way on the second account to prevent that from causing further problems.

Try disabling it this way. Go to run command and type "msconfig". Click the "tools" tab and then scroll down to "Disable UAC" and highlight it. Then press "Launch". Then reboot your pc.

The only item found in the msconfig is the security accounts manager. The UAC is directly under the admin account as a security option there. This is why the suggestion was made for seeing a new admin created with that disabled.

There's a good chance in the long run you may have to see Windows reinstalled however. The problem with icons idisappearing suggests an incomplete install. But trying a new account would be the first thought to see if a fresh account will correct this.

I've reinstalled Vista several times here between multibooting and swapping drives and haven't run into any problems with the UAC unchecked at any time.
