ive just read the manual i havent needed to do a cmos reset for a long time, it doesnt really explain it very well in the manual do i move the jumper accross from 1 and 2 to 2 and 3 and then turn the power on or do i need to move it back to 1 and 2 before turning the power on?

it doesnt really explain it very well in the manual and i havent had to perform this procedure for some years, do i move the jumper from 1and2 to 2and3 and turn the power on or move it back to 1and2 and then turn the power on?

NO you need to disconnect the power cord.. press the ON switch to discharge any current left then swtich the jumper for a few seconds then place it back then reconnect the power and turn ON.. DO not press the power button with the jumper in the wrong place or it will damage the motherboard... your manual should state something on these lines...

well if resetting the cmos did not help the only other thing would be is the fan working on the heatsink and not clogged with dust..?? What are the specs on your machine?

theres a bit of dust on the fan but it seems to be working ok

cpu intel core 2 duo 6600
