Problems in de-partitioning my laptop and installing a new OS.

Hey guys. I want to de-partition my hard drive. I've already deleted the drive D using run:compmgmt.msc. Now I understand that if I install a new OS I can combine the partitions in my hard drive, right? I have done the necessary preparations (saved important files, ect.) and am ready to format and install a new OS. Now here's my problem. Everytime I boot the new OS CD, I never get to reach the setup menu. My laptop crashes everytime before the setup menu.

Is there something wrong with my laptop? Am I infected with a virus? Anyone got a good idea/answer/solution?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks a bunch.

When it crashes, what does it do? Are you getting any error messages? We need more info.

let me get this right, your hard drive was partitioned into 2 parts?

1 for storage and windows files and other was your recovery partition?

you deleted your recovery partition and now you cant install your windows disk on it?

is the windows disk a vista disk you got with your laptop?

if it is its prob trying to boot into the recovery partition

Nope. The 1st disk is the main disk. 2nd was for storage and other stuff. I transfered the files from a second disk to an external HD. I want to departition my HD and I plan on doing this by installing a new windows xp sp3 and de-partitioning it at the same time (that can be done right?).

Now I cant even get to the setup menu on the new xp disk because my laptop just turns off instantly before it even reaches the setup menu. No blue screen or any info. Just automatically turns off like pulling the plug on your tv. O-o
