Problems w/updates

I had a problem with my computer and brought it into a shop to have it repaired. The guy was great. But I got home and seen I had a windows update. It is failing to install windows installer 3.1. Any recommendations on what I can do?? I really don't want to surf w/o an updated system!:o
 
Does it fail to install that update only through the Windows Update site? Have you tried downloading it individually first?

There may be a pre-requisite for it, such as .NET framework 2.0 or newer.
 
I have tried to repair the .net framework 3.0 but it still isn't working. I don't think I can download any updates.
 
Yes I have tried to download it seperately. Do you recommend any sites for that specifically? I am kinda weary of stuff like that. Thank you! :D
 
Well you should use the Microsoft.com site to download them

Now is the Windows Installer 3.1 the only update you can't install, or can you not install any updates?
 
It also may require WGA, which is annoying and retarded that MS requires that, but you all know, its really helping the fight against piracy.:rolleyes:

I would run windows update and see if there is an update to WGA, which stands for windows genuine advantage. Install any updates for that, then see if you can update everything else.

This is assuming you are running windows XP.
 
I tried the WGA. It updated but I still have like 11 updates that won't install.

Here is a log of the probs that seems to be happening. I have checked around and someone said this log might help. I have spent about 3.5 hrs trying to get these updates installed. GRRRRRR! :mad: lol

Okay well I went through and updated what I could. I choose to ignore the other updates. Most of them didn't apply to my computer. I appreciate everyone helping! :D
 
there is a problem with the .net framework windows update right now, i have not seen a bulletin for it yet. just a heads up to everyone
