i brought xp for my comptuer a while back and have recently used the disc to put it on my second computer. its now prompting for activation and i've been reading articles about inbuilt WPA system locking users out if its not activated. Can XP only be used for one comptuer? is it possible to have xp on both if i activate the other and not register it?

I'm not sure if I understand you, but if you don't activate it, after either 30 or 60 days, it will stop working.

I am pretty sure it can be used for like 5 computers, unless it was a disk that coma with a prebuilt computer and says on it "for distribution with a new PC only"or whatever

but i stupidly got xp from my local dodgy computer shop and he sold me (illegially me thinks) a 'for distribution with a new PC only' xp disc. so this type can't be used more than once?
It isn't supposed to be able to, whether or not it can, i don't know, I never tried:rolleyes:

hmmm, looks like the family is going to have to suffer windows ME a little longer after all.

You can try, and it will prbably work, the only thing is that if the police ever find out, which the chances are very slim that they won't, you could be in trouble for buying illegal stuff, and the seller would be in trouble too.

Actually, you said that he sold you a disk like that, which means that it was already used, and you could already be on the illegal side of the law, b/c you bought it.......or maybe not. I really don't have those laws memorized.

But anyway, do what you want, just be careful (and don't blame me:P )

oh no, he didn't sell us a used disc, he sold us a new one. ones that are meant for distributers only. it had a pretty sticker with it too. i think your right when you said earlier that those discs are probably only meant for one computer.....where as normal discs can be used on numerous home computers. its annoying microsoft dont have this sort of information more readily available.

Well, I only knew it could be used for multiple computers when I saw that on the back it said "use this nmber every time you install this software"
